The Dakota Project

When one of the most prestigious buildings in New York City, and also one of the oldest steam systems in the country needed a boiler upgrade, they turned to Marlande Heating. We were privileged with the task of installing a new heating system at The Dakota located at 1 West 72 Street in Manhattan and we delivered. Teaming up with Enpower Engineering, we took a spare, dark room with 150 year old arched ceilings and a natural spring running through it and brought it alive with the latest state of the art heating equipment the market had to offer. The first task was emptying the room of all of the storage and artifacts that were stored in the future boiler room. Starting with a French drainage system, a complete new concrete floor and an acoustical sound proof drop ceiling, we now had our palette for one of the biggest and best projects we have ever performed. We carefully laid out the room with the minimal space we had to install two new Unilux 250 HP boilers fired by Industrial Combustion gas fired burners, a new boiler water feed system, two new Camus water heaters and storage tanks, and a stainless steel chimney liner dropped down the existing brick chimney. The installation featured a complete new electrical upgrade featuring new state of the art boiler controls and VFD drives and was capped off by all new LED lighting, insulation and full paint job. The end result was a showcase boiler room that we would put up against any boiler room on the city. A job well done from top to bottom!
